Carrefour hosts the Food Banks for the major national donation campaign

Having worked with the Food Banks since 1998, Carrefour will be hosting them from 29 November to 1 December for the 21st food donation campaign. Every year, this campaign provides the needy with the equivalent of several million meals.

All hands on deck for this important day

Donations to food banks are essential for distributing foodstuffs to vulnerable people. For this year's edition, Carrefour will be hosting the donation campaign in more than 1500 stores throughout France from 29 November to 1 December, with the help of volunteers and employees who will be on hand to raise consumers' awareness. In 2018, some 2200 tonnes of foodstuffs were donated in Carrefour stores on this national donation day.

Carrefour is the leading private donor to Food Banks in France – the equivalent of 19 million meals were donated in 2018 (nearly 10,000 tonnes).

An ongoing commitment to charities

Since 1998, all Carrefour store and warehouse employees have been committed throughout the year to supplying charities with foodstuffs and supporting their initiatives to tackle poverty. Many of these foodstuffs go to aid initiatives organised by the retailer, such as Les Restos du cœur, the Secours populaire or more locally, more local charities which work close to the stores.

Carrefour also provides logistical support, helping to finance the purchase of refrigeration lorries and cold rooms. Since 1998, 175 refrigeration lorries, 41 cold rooms and a range of other items have been financed, enabling food aid charities to optimise the logistical management of the donations that they receive.
